In the meantime,...

Try the following, in order
User closes mailfile
Remove mailfile and replicas from workspace
Close Notes
Delete user's cache.dsk

On server Admin performs an updall -r and fixup on mailfile

Open notes
Add mailfile to workspace
Open mailfile

Use SHIFT-CTRL-F9

This _should_ fix the view/folder focus issues
